Finally back to running

After almost 3 weeks of recovery, I have finally got back out to run round the park. Having taken a break just before twisting my ankle, it's been pretty much a month since I ran regularly, and it has been getting on my nerves more and more. This reached a peak at the Gyro 10k, which I went to watch but could not participate in. Whilst it was great to watch my friends doing so well, it was pretty depressing to not run in the race that had been my goal.

But enough dwelling, getting out this evening was lovely. I only ran 3k, as I thought a short, gentle effort would be a suitable goal for my first test of my ankle. There's no denying that I was feeling some twinges as it started - the cold weather seems to be having something of an effect on the injury as well. Once it was warm, it was feeling pretty good, but right toward the end of the 3k, I was starting to get a little discomfort. I think that overall I can be happy with how it went, and I will be back out on Wednesday, probably with a similar short run to continue to help build up the strength.

There's talk of a 10k on 12th October - I'd like to do that, but it will definitely be a last minute sign up if I do. The last thing I want to do is push it too far to fast. This is the first time I've ever had to try and recover from something like this, so its all guess work. Irritating yes, but at least I am finally back to doing some exercise ...

(and who'd have thought that would be what you'd be reading on this blog a year ago ;-)
