Film struggles on

I've been working on a feature film script since the middle of January, and it has been quite a slog so far. Based off a short film I wrote last year, I got the outline together fairly well, but (with hindsight) should have spent more time playing around with it before embarking on the script itself. Having committed myself to writing it, I've kept at it with varying levels of day to day success. I've been deliberately resisting the urge to stop and start again, as I think it's important to go through various drafts, and felt that it would be a good way to discover more of the story and characters if I managed to pull together a complete first draft.

Having thought I'd made it a week ago, I am now finally into writing the third act. I've just realised something very crucial about the motivation of one of my characters, which has helped with that move. It's been tough to get it this far, especially with the amazing number of times that I have changed my mind about whether I like the story, the characters or the frankly the idea of writing at all. On top of that, I have got another, very different idea, for a story that has been germinating for the last few weeks, and I've had to really discipline myself to not just abandon "All the Way" (working title) for the benefit of the new project.

But anyway, much of the third act should write itself, as it is essentially the short film I wrote already. Of course, the circumstances have changed, so much will have to be tweaked, but it is the clearest part of the film in my head. Well, until the very last few scenes anyway.
